Fringe Benefits

Get strung out on this sassy fashion trend.

On the Fringe (left to right): Fall 2014 runway looks from Versace, Milly NY, Marchesa, Oscar de la Renta, Lanvin and Alice + Olivia.

We admire the way they shimmy and shake with every little step we take. We appreciate the way they twist and twirl on the dance floor. And we love how all eyes are on us as they fall from our hips, shoulders or—by way of some killer boots or a pair of innovative jeans—our grateful legs. No longer limited to country-and-western clubs and the salsa circuit, fringe is one of this season’s most prevalent style statements, and we couldn’t be more enraptured.

The fussing over fridge began on last spring’s runways and has continued full force into autumn. Find this sassy string on everything from mini skirts, jackets and jewelry, to luxe dresses, boots, high heels and handbags. But keep in mind: The one thing this look-at-me trend demands is subtlety. To avoid a head-to-toe cowgirl look (although western styles are big this fall), choose one fringed-out wardrobe item and make it the centerpiece of your outfit. Then move, girl, and let the fringe do the rest.
